Job Title: Accountant Officer

Position Overview:
The Accountant Officer will play a key role in ensuring accurate financial management and reporting for both project-specific and overall Program financial activities. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting, with experience in managing finances for multiple projects, and a passion for working in the non-profit sector.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Accounting:
- Maintain accurate financial records for specific projects, ensuring compliance with donor requirements.
- Monitor and track project budgets, expenditures, and financial performance.
- Prepare financial reports for project donors, management, and other stakeholders.
- Assist in the preparation of project proposals, including budget development.
General Accounting:
- Manage the organization’s general ledger, ensuring all financial transactions are recorded accurately.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Conduct regular reconciliations of accounts, including bank statements.
- Ensure compliance with relevant financial regulations and accounting standards.
- Assist in the preparation of the annual budget and financial planning.
Audit and Compliance:
- Support internal and external audits, providing necessary documentation and explanations.
- Ensure that financial controls are in place and adhered to across the organization.
- Stay updated on changes in accounting standards and regulations that may impact the program.
Payroll and Tax Management:
- Process payroll for all employees, ensuring timely and accurate payments.
- Manage and file tax returns, ensuring compliance with local tax laws.
Capacity Building:
- Provide training and support to project managers and other staff on financial management practices.
- Assist in developing and improving financial management tools and procedures.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of accounting experience, preferably in the non-profit or NGO sector.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Deltek, Microsoft Dynamics, SAP, or other relevant platforms).
- Strong understanding of donor regulations and requirements.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Experience with project accounting and budget management is highly desirable.
