About the Role As the Controls & Electrical Systems Manager, you will drive the design, development, and integration of the electrical and power electronics subsystems that enable safe, efficient, and reliable engine performance. You will oversee technologies including:DC‑DC converters and power supplies Motor/generator interfaces Ignition and plasma driver circuits RPM sensing and control electronics Future integration of electric motors for hybrid propulsion The role is approximately split 50% technical leadership / 50% team development and supervision, including hiring and growing a world‑class engineering organization. You’ll work closely with embedded systems, ECU software, control hardware, testing, and advanced engine architecture teams to deliver aerospace‑grade solutions that perform in some of the harshest environments on earth.???? Key Responsibilities Design & Development Lead design of DC‑DC converters, drivers, ignition systems, and power electronics for embedded and engine control applications. Select and validate power topologies (buck, boost, flyback, full‑bridge, etc.). Size and select high‑reliability components (FETs, IGBTs, inductors, transformers, gate drivers, capacitors). Architect plasma ignition driver circuits, ensuring robust high‑voltage pulse generation under thermal and EMI constraints. Run simulations (LTspice, PLECS, PSIM) and develop prototypes for lab and rig testing. Perform thermal analysis, EMI/EMC evaluations, and power integrity assessments. Support integration with ECUs and electrical subsystems. Ensure compliance with MIL‑STD‑704, MIL‑STD‑461, DO‑160, and other aerospace/defense standards. Produce schematics, BOMs, test plans, and failure analysis documentation. Collaboration Partner with Embedded Systems, Control Hardware, and Wiring Engineering teams to ensure compatibility and system‑level performance. Provide input to system power budgets, connector strategies, and thermal designs. Work closely with ECU software engineers to align digital control and hardware performance. Coordinate across Technology Programs, Testing, and Product Lines to ensure alignment with business and market needs.???? Required Qualifications Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Controls, Electrical Engineering, or related field.10+ years of experience in electrical or power electronics design (aerospace, defense, or automotive preferred). Expertise in motor/generator design, power supply design, motor control (BLDC/brushed), and ignition circuitry. Strong background in thermal design, high‑power PCB layout, and EMI mitigation.3+ years leading R&D teams. Experience with project management is an advantage.✨ Desired Skills Experience with high‑temperature or high‑altitude applications. Knowledge of aerospace starter/generator systems. Familiarity with microcontroller/ECU digital control (PWM, ADC, fault management). Understanding of fault protection (OVP, UVLO, OCP, OTP). Experience with DFMA, PCB assembly constraints. Exposure to batteries, ultracapacitors, or hybrid energy systems.
