Job Description

Position Overview:

The Lecturer in Fintech is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction on the intersection of finance and technology. This role involves teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students, developing curriculum, guiding research projects, and fostering industry collaborations. The Lecturer will focus on emerging trends in fintech, such as blockchain, digital payments, cryptocurrencies, and AI in finance, while ensuring students understand regulatory and security aspects critical to the fintech ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teaching & Curriculum Development:
  • Develop and deliver lectures, seminars, and practical labs on topics such as digital banking, blockchain, cryptocurrency, AI in finance, smart contracts, and fintech innovations.
  • Design secure and scalable systems using best practices, ensuring that students understand security principles in fintech applications.
  • Update curriculum to reflect evolving trends, emphasizing security measures such as encryption, fraud detection, and regulatory compliance.
  • Create hands-on projects that encourage students to develop fintech solutions with robust security features from the start.
  • Student Assessment & Mentorship:
  • Create and evaluate assignments, assessments, and projects that test both theoretical knowledge and practical skills in fintech.
  • Guide students in developing secure fintech solutions, highlighting risk management, data protection, and privacy by design.
  • Provide mentorship to students on research, internships, and career paths in fintech, ensuring they understand the importance of security and regulatory compliance in financial technologies.
  • Support students in fintech-related certifications and competitions.
  • Research & Scholarly Activities:
  • Engage in research focusing on secure fintech solutions, blockchain technologies, digital currencies, and AI in financial services.
  • Publish research in reputable academic journals, with a focus on cybersecurity measures within fintech systems.
  • Supervise student research projects that explore secure applications of emerging fintech technologies, such as fraud-resistant digital payment systems or decentralized finance (DeFi) solutions.
  • Collaborate on interdisciplinary research with colleagues and external partners in finance and technology sectors.
  • Industry Engagement & Collaboration:
  • Develop relationships with financial institutions, fintech startups, and regulatory bodies to ensure students are exposed to real-world applications of fintech and related security practices.
  • Invite industry experts for guest lectures and workshops to share insights on secure fintech solutions and best practices in protecting financial data.
  • Facilitate internships and industry placements for students with an emphasis on roles focused on secure financial technologies.
  • Departmental & Administrative Activities:
  • Participate in curriculum planning and department meetings to ensure fintech courses remain relevant and up to date.
  • Assist in organizing conferences, hackathons, and workshops focused on fintech, with an emphasis on secure coding practices and compliance.
  • Collaborate with faculty members to develop cross-departmental projects integrating fintech, data security, and business management principles.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • A Master's or Ph.D. degree in Financial Technology, Computer Science, Information Technology, Business, or a related field.
  • Relevant industry certifications, such as CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional) or certifications in fintech (e.g., Certified Fintech Professional), are a plus.
  • Experience of about 3 to 5 years in teaching fintech, financial services, or related fields, preferably with a focus on the security aspects of these technologies.
  • Practical experience or research in areas such as blockchain, AI in finance, or cybersecurity in financial systems.

Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of fintech applications, with an emphasis on secure coding practices, data protection, and risk management.
  • Proficiency in fintech tools and technologies, such as blockchain platforms (e.g., Ethereum, Hyperledger), AI/ML for financial analysis, and digital payment systems.
  • Familiarity with regulatory compliance in financial services, including data privacy laws and anti-fraud measures.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex fintech concepts and security measures to students at all levels.
  • Strong organizational and mentorship abilities.
