Role Summary:

• To support the engineering team in all Masdar’s renewable energy power projects with main focus on solar PV and wind technologies throughout all project’s lifecycle. This includes conducting feasibility studies of civil and structural aspects covering the design technical specifications, technical & commercial design optimization tool and review of proposal packages from external stakeholders.

Key Accountabilities:

Civil & structural design for projects:

• Assist in screening methodology for early stage projects, which are in the DD phase and perform detailed project screening.
• Use all kinds of structural and civil design softwares like (STAAD.PRO, AutoCAD, LPILE, PLAXIS, Solidworks, Etabs, SAFE etc.) to complete project and assigned work.
• Prepare project’s civil and structural designs, risk reviews, mitigation plans, engineering validations, bill of quantity (BOQ) framing, including review and finalization of drawings and design calculation.
• For wind project, assist in foundation stability verifications, bearing capacity of foundation soil in ultimate limit state and verification that foundation and the soil will provide the required rotational stiffness required by the tower.
• Ensure design work is carried out to the agreed standards and codes of practice as per the project requirements and international standards.
• Perform preliminary road designs in Civil 3D, complete with cut and fill calculations.

Performance of engineering activities:

• Prepare and finalize technical specifications & BOQ’s for site investigation works.
• Select technology and perform cost optimization of civil & structural components for power plant including cut and fill scope within the site boundaries.
• Design and engineer for the main power plant area which includes drainage, roads, grading & levelling, foundations for invertor station (in case of PV plant), Wind Turbine Generator (WTG) Foundation (in case of wind plant), IDT, ET, O&M building & MCR. Specifically for PV plant, design Concrete/Rammed/Predrilled Pile for Tracker/Fixed module mounting structure etc.
• Design and engineer for the Substation area which includes design of structure and foundation of LA, BPI, Aerial Busbar, circuit breaker, current transformer, power transformer, transmission line tower.
• Ensure that internal roads in wind farms are designed according to the wind turbine manufacturer specifications and local regulation.
• Complete project costing and estimation of civil design and engineering in order to optimize the LCOE.
• Developing tools to optimise Foundation design, running CAPEX, and quality assurance
• Establish Owner specifications, standards and procedures for executing the desired civil and structural package.
• Assist the Project Delivery team for Project planning, Scheduling, Monitoring, Control and Resources Management for civil and structural scope in Renewable projects of various nature.
• Assist with fatigue calculation verifications on wind turbine tower and foundation components.

RFP bid evaluation regarding civil aspects:

• Take to lead in the evaluation relating to technical civil and structural aspects to the agreed Masdar standards and general codes of practice for received bids from Vendors
• Assist in the technical evaluation matrix defining the selection criteria of technical consultants

Participation and support to all project contractual agreements (such as EPC, PPA etc.) evaluation and negotiations regarding civil aspects:

• Manage EPC contract activities relating to various civil aspects such as drainage, building, foundation etc.
• Ensure clear incorporation and definition of all civil and structural requirements in the contracts with the relevant contractors of any renewable energy projects of Masdar CE

Contracting and supervision of civil and structural consultants for power projects:

• Review technical design of drawings and documents during implementation phase

Contribution to stakeholder relations:

• Build and maintain a network of relevant contacts to support daily activities and long-term objectives of the team.
• Engage with and monitor relationships with internal and external stakeholders in order to ensure adequate knowledge transfer and completion of services as per agreed parameters.

Qualifications, Experience & Skills:

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachler’s Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering or equivalent
• Master’s Degree in Engineering is an asset
• Chartered Engineer status e.g. (e.g. IET, EUR Ing, Peng) is an asset

Preferred Experience:

• 8-10 years of work experience in a civil engineering role within the energy sector with at least 5 years of civil & structural design or engineering experience related to renewable power plants with emphasize on wind technologies or equivalent experience
• Any additional experience with estimating or designing civil systems is preferred

Job-Specific Skills:

• Civil and structural design software
• Ability to multi-task and manage numerous projects simultaneously
• Competence in AutoCAD and Civil 3D is mandatory
• Competence in STAAD PRO is mandatory
• Additional software skills like SAFE, Etabs and Solidworks, LPILE, PLAXIS, are preferred
• Well versed in Microsoft Office, especially Excel
• Knowledge of international civil & structural design codes & standards and construction practices
