About the Role
As a Senior Compliance Officer, you will be responsible for the execution of the day-to-day compliance activities, ensuring alignment with organizational goals, applicable regulations in coordination with the Legal Department as well as global standards. This role will support the organization in identifying, assessing, mitigating, and monitoring compliance risks, fostering a culture of compliance with laws and regulations and Group by-laws, and integrating risk based compliance practices across Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) functions, with an emphasis on collaboration with Internal Audit (IA).
Senior Compliance Officer will also play a pivotal role in advancing Corporate Compliance maturity by implementing actionable recommendations based on strategic insights and aligning global frameworks, such as ISO-37301-2021.
He/ She should have strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills, as well as a high degree of integrity, professionalism, and ethics.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
Compliance Framework
- Support in reviewing and updating Compliance and other key Corporate Policies.
- Contribute to the development and update of the Compliance Strategy/initiatives and roadmap.
- Support GRC tool to be implemented including a mature compliance module/system.
Compliance Universe
- Update the Compliance Library (database) regularly with Statutory and non-statutory updates, after having aligned them with the Group’s relevant stakeholders and the Legal Department.
Compliance Monitoring
- Close coordination with champions / counterparts from each of the Group’s functions on a need-basis.
- Monitor the Group’s adherence to due compliance obligations on a periodic basis by obtaining the compliance self-assessment results from the functions’ champions and validating the results based on submitted evidence.
Reporting and Documentation
- Collect, analyze, and prepare data for periodic reporting to the CEO; and the Board’s Audit, Risk and Compliance Committee.
Corporate Governance Policies
- Review newly developed and renewed policies, highlighting any regulatory or compliance gaps, and recommending necessary updates to ensure alignment with laws and regulations and other MBC Group internal policies.
Support, Training and Awareness
- Act as the first point of contact for employees seeking guidance on compliance-related matters.
- Deliver or coordinate compliance training sessions for staff to ensure awareness of regulatory obligations and Group policies.
- Disseminate updates on regulatory changes or policy adjustments under the direction of the Senior Manager.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify areas for improvement in current compliance processes and recommend enhancements to the Senior Manager.
- Research industry standards or best practices and propose their adoption where appropriate.
Qualifications
- The candidate should have at least 5 to 8 years of experience in establishing and managing corporate compliance with laws, regulations, and internal policies.
- The candidate should have a Law degree or any other degree, and professional qualifications that enable him/her to understand and operate the corporate compliance function (e.g. Governance Professional, CAMS, CCEP, CCB, etc.) or have a Compliance-focused experience within a Big four firm.
- Able to collaborate, explain compliance requirements, and build relationship with compliance stakeholders.
- Work Independently and capable to autonomously set a compliance program and priorities.
- Experienced in compliance report writing.
- Preferred to be bilingual (Arabic and English).
- High degree of integrity, professionalism, and ethics, and the ability to handle confidential and sensitive information.
- Technology aware and equipped, able to interact with systems, run data analysis activities and develop advance and professional reports.
