Datacenter Facility Manager

Job Summary:

The Data Center Facility Manager is responsible for overseeing the operations, maintenance, and management of the physical infrastructure within a data center. The DC Facility manager shall ensure that all critical systems, including power, cooling, security, and fire suppression, operate efficiently and reliably to meet the organization's needs. The DC Facility Manager plays a key role in ensuring the data center’s uptime, optimizing facility performance, and leading the team responsible for maintaining the data center's infrastructure.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Facility Operations: Manage day-to-day operations of the data center, ensuring all critical systems (power, cooling, security, etc.) are functioning optimally.
  • Maintenance Management: Develop and oversee preventive maintenance schedules for all data center infrastructure, including generators, UPS systems, HVAC systems, and other critical equipment.
  • Emergency Response: Lead the response to any facility-related emergencies, such as power outages, equipment failures, or environmental issues, ensuring minimal disruption to data center operations.
  • Vendor Management: Coordinate and manage relationships with external vendors and service providers for maintenance, repairs, and equipment supply.
  • Security Oversight: Implement and maintain stringent security protocols to protect the facility from unauthorized access, including physical security measures and access controls.
  • Environmental Monitoring: Continuously monitor environmental conditions within the data center, such as temperature, humidity, and air quality, to ensure optimal operating conditions for IT equipment.
  • Compliance and Reporting: Ensure the facility complies with industry standards, regulations, and certifications. Prepare regular reports on facility performance, incidents, and maintenance activities.
  • Capacity Planning: Monitor and manage the data center’s physical space, power, and cooling capacity, ensuring that resources are available to meet current and future needs.
  • Budget Management: Manage the budget for facility operations, including costs for maintenance, upgrades, and utilities, while ensuring cost-effective operations.
  • Team Leadership: Supervise and lead a team of facility engineers and technicians, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure high performance and professional development.
  • Health and Safety Compliance: Ensure all facility operations comply with health and safety regulations, including conducting regular safety drills and inspections.


Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Facilities Management, Engineering, IT, or a related field. Relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Data Center Professional, Certified Facility Manager) are a plus.
  • Experience: Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in data center facilities management or a similar role, with a proven track record in managing critical infrastructure.
  • Technical Skills: In-depth knowledge of data center infrastructure systems, including electrical, mechanical, and HVAC systems. Familiarity with Building Management Systems (BMS) and Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) software.
  • Leadership Skills: Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and manage a team of technical professionals.
  • Problem-Solving: Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to manage complex situations under pressure.
  • Communication: Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact effectively with stakeholders at all levels, including senior management and external vendors.
  • Project Management: Experience in managing projects related to facility upgrades, expansions, or new installations, including planning, execution, and oversight.


Working Conditions:

  • This role requires the ability to work in a high-stress environment, often involving critical decision-making during emergencies.
  • The Data Center Facility Manager may be required to be on-call 24/7 to respond to facility emergencies.
