Job Summary :
The Senior Planning Engineer in the Estimation Department is responsible for developing, coordinating, and monitoring comprehensive project schedules to ensure the timely and cost-effective completion of projects. This role requires expertise in project planning, resource management, cost estimation, and risk analysis, as well as collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to achieve project goals. The Senior Planning Engineer plays a critical role in aligning project timelines with budget estimates and ensuring compliance with technical and contractual requirements.
Key Responsibilities :
- Project Planning & Scheduling :
- Develop detailed project schedules for construction, engineering, or industrial projects based on scope, timelines, and resources.
- Create Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) and identify critical path activities.
- Monitor progress, update schedules, and adjust timelines as needed to meet project goals.
- Identify potential delays or risks and recommend mitigation strategies.
- Cost Estimation & Budgeting :
- Collaborate with the estimation team to align schedules with cost estimates.
- Analyze cost impacts of schedule adjustments and provide recommendations for optimization.
- Review cost and resource loading in the schedules and ensure alignment with project budgets.
- Prepare, review, and manage technical documents such as method statements,
- Project execution plane,
- Project Organization Chart, Quality & Safety Plans ensuring accuracy,
- Completeness and compliance with project specifications and requirements.
- Plan resource allocation and identify manpower, equipment, and material requirements to meet project schedules.
- Ensure resource leveling to optimize efficiency and prevent project delays.
- Coordinate with procurement and subcontracting teams to ensure timely availability of materials and services.
- Reporting & Communication :
- Generate weekly and monthly project reports, including progress updates, cost forecasts, and resource utilization.
- Present schedule updates and analyses to senior management and stakeholders.
- Facilitate communication between various departments (estimation, engineering, procurement, and construction) to ensure alignment on project schedules.
- Risk Management & Mitigation :
- Identify schedule risks, analyze their impact on project timelines, and develop mitigation plans.
- Conduct scenario analysis to predict potential outcomes and recommend alternative solutions to meet project objectives.
- Project Coordination & Collaboration:
- Work closely with project managers, engineers, and the estimation team to integrate planning and estimation functions.
- Support the Estimation Department by providing schedule-related insights and assisting in the preparation of tender documents and bids.
- Proficiently use planning and scheduling software such as Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, and other relevant tools.
- Ensure that all project schedules and related documentation are maintained in accordance with company standards.
- Qualifications & Experience :
- Education : Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Experience : Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in project planning, scheduling, and cost estimation, with at least 3 years in a senior role.
- Industry Experience : Experience in construction, infrastructure, oil & gas, or related industries is preferred.
Certifications: PMP, AACEi, or PSP certification is a plus.
- Strong understanding of project planning and scheduling principles.
- Advanced proficiency in Primavera P6, MS Project, and other planning tools.
- In-depth knowledge of cost estimation processes and integration with project schedules.
